Maybe it's just me
Feb. 15th, 2019 10:03 pmDigimon, Yu-Gi-Oh!, Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, Shaman King, Inuyasha, Buffy the Vampire Slayer.... When I started to read fanfics, I was into all those fandoms. Except for Shaman King, which fandom wasn't as big as the others, every single one of these fandoms had a big crossover community. The Digimon fandom even had a crossover section with Pokemon in FF.net, back before there was an option to tag crossovers and you had to write down in the summary which crossover it was. I also used to spend a lot of time at Twisting the Hellmouth, a Buffy site dedicated to crossovers with this fandom (which, sadly, isn't as active as it used to be).
Anyway, here's the question: Is it just me or there used to be more crossovers? Maybe it's because a lot of the crossovers I used to read were Buffy crossovers, and that fandom made crossovers easy because they had canon interdimensional portals, but I swear that every popular fandom back then used to have its own fair share of crossovers. I mean, there even used to be a communites back in LiveJournal fully dedicated to crossovers.
AO3 now has a "Show only crossovers", but it didn't always, so maybe that's why they're not as popular now? Because it weren't easy to find? I don't know, but damn, I miss a good crossover, they were fun!
