artabria A while back I started to write/plot a Legolas/OC fic. The plot itself is done, but I'm having some problems with the backstory. I want to mix book canon with movie canon and for the most part setting up the timeline has been quite easy, except for one thing: I can't figure out when Legolas' mother died.
1) The movies say that Legolas mother died in Gundabad.
2) I have a headcanon that female soldiers are a thing in Mirkwood. According to LACE canon, female elves have no problem in becoming soldiers if there's a need, and the need here is called "Mirkwood is dangerous, 2/3 of its army got destroyed at the end of the Second Age and this is a race which numbers would rise slowly".
Which leads to my third point: 3) Legolas' mother died during an attack against Angmar.
There were two big attacks to destroy that kingdom and I want her to die fighting in one of them. Canon says that Mirkwood elves didn't participate in any of the attacks, but this is fanfic and, technically, all of the Legendarium is told by an unreliable narrator.
I mean, the Hobbit is supposed to have two different versions because Bilbo Baggins is a dirty, dirty liar.

Date: 2019-10-26 06:10 pm (UTC)I re-watched Battle of Five Armies today for the fic. Thranduil tells Legolas that "your mother loved you more than her own life" so now I'm starting to headcanon that she died saving Legolas.
I'm also tempted to write that Legolas and Tauriel didn't actually go to MOUNT Gundabad. The distance between Gundabad and Erebor is too big, even for elves. Maybe they went to the frontier of Gundabad's territory? Maybe it was a mountain pass towards Gundabad/Angmar territory?
