Well, Shaman King's reboot has started. I have discovered that it's going to be on Netflix at some point, so the question is: do I watch with fansubs or with a proper translation?

Also, I'm a bit concerned because the new anime is going to be shorter than the old anime, but somehow still include all the content from the manga? The only way I can think of them acomplishing this is if they rush things in the anime.

On reading news, I have managed to start reading again! I have recently finished reading Sunshine, by Robin McKinley. Missed reading vampire romance, although I wish this had a bit more romance (it's not bad, it's just that I wanted more vampire romance). Now I'm reading Vengeful, by VE Schwab.

Rule of Wolves is out, and I'm not sure if I want to read it. There's talk that Bardugo has done the same thing as Aveyard AKA author creates a love triangle where one of the love interests is the villain of the story -> part of the fandom likes the Enemies to Lovers trope -> Author hates the fandom not liking the proper ship and does something about it in their book.

I didn't expect the Enemies to Lovers ship to ever happen, but I was kind of hoping that Aveyard's kind of writing in War Storm wasn't going to happen again.

Maybe I'm overthinking this, I don't know.

But, seriously, what did Aveyard expect when she made the villain a love interest?

Oh, I read one of those books but had to nope out on the second because the writing took a nosedive and I couldn't see what Aveyard could do to make me not hate basically everyone.

Also, yeah, that's a pretty common trope and people expect it to happen when it's brought up.

Oh, that would definitely make me mad, yeah. What an odd decision...

I think for Shaman King I'll probably be watching it multiple times, so fansubs and on Netflix! Might be a good time to watch the old anime, too... Very exciting. :D

It's going to be so great. I love those later sections of the manga in particular. (^^)

Ooh, it would be nice if the reboot gets put on Netflix. I don't think I ever finished watching the original anime unfortunately, might do that in the meantime 🤔

Looking forward to your thoughts on Vengeful.

I don't have much hope for a Hero/Villain ship. Even if it does manage to happen I find that authors change the villain character's personality a lot, sometimes unrecognizably so, in order to sail the ship. It's kind of cheap imo.

"Author hates the fandom not liking the proper ship and does something about it in their book."

This also creates a lot of characterization change. The author decides to make the "wrong" leg of the triangle completely different all of a sudden. (I don't particularly like Bardugo's characters anyway, but I digress.) Sigh.

They're reaaallyy pushing the Villain part of the love triangle with this adaptation too. I haven't even seen the other guy in the triangle. Ben Barnes has a lot of fans apparently so maybe that's a factor in this decision too.
