Up to date with Shaman King

I'm not going to lie: I feel like a kid again. Can't believe that I have to wait a week for the next episode, because I need it NOW. I may grab the Spanish translation of the manga, so I can read while I wait, :P

So far, I'm loving the new anime. I may change opinions once I re-read the manga, but the pacing doesn't seem awkward so far. Both opening and ending are amazing, I LOVE THEM.

My memory may be failing me, but I don't remember Yoh looking like Hao except when he was angry. In this reboot? There were some moments in the first episode where Yoh did look like Hao, some of Yoh's expression won't have been out of place in Hao's face.

Oh! And the new design for the Spirit of Fire? Perfect.

Same! I'm so excited by this anime and it really reminds me of waking up early for Saturday morning cartoons, feeling super excited to watch Shaman King. (^^) I've started rereading the manga and while there are definitely things that are left out, I just don't feel like it's been anything that's really messed up the show, so I'm feeling pretty good about it.

Yoh really does look like Hao in certain shots! I remember when I was watching as a kid I thought they looked really alike, but I figured that was the art style or something. And then the reveal! XD I was amazed.

The Spirit of Fire really does look amazing. Love it.

^^^This. We're still just two episodes in, but I feel like they're doing a good job so far. I think the first episodes of the manga were the "spirit of the week" kind, right? I saw people over Tumblr worried that the reboot wasn't going to be a perfect copy of the manga and that it would destroy Yoh's characterization because of it, but I like it so far?

So far, the anime has made it very clear that Yoh is a pretty relaxed person... as long as you don't piss him off, then it becomes very clear that he's also one of Hao's reincarnations, xD

Agreed! I need to write up more of my thoughts, but I think so far the only episode that's really had a hard time with the faster pacing is the third. Other than that I've been really pleased with things and the characters feel like the characters.
